sustainable sunday :: the daily green

The Consumer's Guide to the Green Revolution "The Daily Green features daily news, tips, seasonal recipes and community photos.  We have a host of bloggers and contributors, and our features cover a variety of topics, including gardening, nutrition and food safety; saving money and energy at home, in the car and everywhere else; the latest research about global warming and the health risks of chemicals and toxic toys; as well as unique topics you'll find nowhere else (like that architectural marvel, the shipping container home).  We are happy to publish the work of many talented writers, and we're proud to partner with some of the most effective nonprofit organizations in the U.S., including the NRDC, the National Audubon Society and the American Lung Association."

sustainable sunday :: green is sexy

Green is Sexy came about when three friends realized that
exchanging tips on ways to make an impact on the environment
was becoming daily conversation.  They decided that, with a bit
of research and some help from their friends, they could spread
the word to all sorts of people and really make a difference.
green is sexy is about tiny changes, big impact.
Why sexy?
Because being informed is sexy.  Being responsible is sexy.
Being eco-friendly is sexy.  Making a difference is sexy.

body movement tuesday :: butoh

Butoh
The collective name for a diverse range of activities, techniques and
motivations for dance, performance, or movement inspired by the
Ankoku-Butoh movement.  It typically involves playful and grotesque
imagery, taboo topics, extreme or absurd environments, and is
traditionally performed in white, body makeup with slow,
hypercontrolled motion, with or without an audience. But there is no
set style, and it may be purely conceptual with no movement at all.
Its origins have been attributed to Japanese dance legends Tatsumi
Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno.

whirling beauties :: fashion, evolved

Fashion, Evolved
"I never set out to be an eco-fashion writer. I don’t consider myself particularly trendy. Fashion, Evolved was born in April 2008 after a tangent sent me on hours of unproductive internet surfing for eco-fashion websites and blogs. The pickings were indeed slim, and in a flash of inspiration I realized that this was a subject I could write about to make a real contribution to the environmental movement.
As I started researching and interviewing different independent “green” designers, I realized that very few of them were making the big bucks with their lines. In fact, many of them are working on their clothing or jewelry along with a second job to support themselves and their vision. Yet, they pushed forward, spurred on the passion for what they believe in: beautiful, tasteful, artistic style that does not compromise ethics or the health and well-being of our environment. Their stories are inspiring and their enthusiasm is infectious."

sprout chicago

Lydia of Sprout Chicago, a conscious living seedling,
contacted Under The Root for an interview. The questions were
of the utmost importance and I was deeply moved with her
care.

rogers park

Under The Root resides in this neighborhood, Rogers Park,
with all its pleasantries and hardships. The site http://www.rogerspark.com has been evolving with the movement
of its surroundings and grown to be a source of undoubted care.
The shout to UTR is returned with a wink, blush, and kiss.
Although, the words do not sum up the love which is shared.
Visit the site and peek around, you will not be sorry.
