whimsical wednesday :: winona cookie creations
Winona Cookie Creations
"When I’m not busy being a psychologist, I’m busy making art, something I have done for as long as I can remember. Since I can’t seem to settle on just one career, it’s not surprising that I can’t settle on just one artistic style either. I enjoy creating whimsical children’s illustrations in watercolor, but also like working with collage, assemblage and making jewelry. Let’s face it: my studio’s a MESS! So while I’m snipping, gluing and painting, I’m channeling Maurice Sendak, Ed Gorey and Alphonse Mucha, and hoping you like the results. While I can sometimes recreate something I’ve done, I’m not interested in mass production, so my offerings will tend to change often – keep checking back!"
"About Winona Cookie: Winona Cookie was my imaginary friend when I was a kid. She looked just like my avatar. Also, I LOVE cookies. And tea. Cookies and tea, both."

Liane Tyrrel
"I'm left handed. I like tattoos. I love swimming out deep. I have a rooster and 11 laying hens; one of which has a crooked beak. I dream daily about living a real simple life in a small cabin with a screened porch and vegetable gardens all about. I once had my astrology chart read and it seems I will be a writer one day."

whimsical wednesday :: rufus and paco

Rufus and Paco
Two artists that live in a great section of Los Angeles, with their dogs Max and Milo, and cats, Willow and Ruby. Rufus works in tin, wood, and fabric, doing mostly assemblages with found objects. Paco is a painter by trade, and works with mixed media, and also finds assemblage his favorite type of art. "The Boys", as they are known, are always on the lookout for findings of all kinds. There is no such thing, as something that can't be turned into art.

whimsical wednesday :: piper and paisley

Piper and Paisley
bad hair day = good hat
"Way back in 2007, Piper and Paisley was born out of the basement of a teeny little house in Missoula, Montana. I am a hat girl. Always have been. When we decided to grow a family, I really couldn't justify my hat habit any longer, but I had the "new-mom-always-looks-like-a-truck-just-hit-her" look goin' on, and I really needed something to make me look a little more on my game. So I made some hats. Then I sold some hats. Now here I am.
Piper and Paisley hats are all made by me. I draft all of my patterns by hand, and adjust them for the best fit."

Laura Bath
"When Laura was little she drew a picture of a dog and showed it to her mum. Her mum then asked what she had copied it from. Laura replied: “From my head”. From then on pictures and ideas have regularly fallen out of her head and somehow made it into the real world, landing on any scrap of paper left lying around. At age 17, she had work hung in the Royal Academy of Art as part of their outreach project and she later graduated with a BA (Hons) Illustration degree in 2004. Since then she has spent most of her time with a pencil, pen, paintbrush or mouse (the computer variety although she is very fond of furry little creatures) firmly in her hand. Her artwork echoes her Gemini personality; one half is a growing collection of strange but happy looking creatures and the other more traditional figurative pieces based on the female form. What ends up on the paper just relies on what mood she’s in. Her inspiration comes from everywhere and everyone, whatever comes her way. She loves the countryside and animals, 80’s cartoons and memorabilia, charity shops, car boot sales, Hayao Miyazaki films, Japanese design and pop culture, reading books by Terry Pratchett, making a mess, Peppermint tea and of course Marmite!"

whimsical wednesday :: papercuthearts and baltica

PaperCutHearts
Repurposing outdated cartography and vintage lexicography into
papercut art for the one you heart.
"Eight years ago I started self-studying Eastern European folklore
paper cutting and two years later transitioned to one-sheet solid color
cutouts. During that time I arrived at my own style which I'm now
excited to share with you on etsy. I especially love working with
outdated maps, dictionaries, vintage books and music sheets creating
one-of-a-kind custom cartography and lexicography paper-cut art for
those you heart."
and..
if that is not endearing enough, her handmade jewelry is stunning.
