fashion friday :: buffalo exchange

The first Buffalo Exchange opened in 1974 in Tucson, Arizona
by Kerstin and Spencer Block. To our knowledge, this was the
very first store that bought, sold, traded and took clothing items
and accessories on consignment.  Kerstin, being Swedish, thought
the word 'Buffalo' was very American.  And since the store was
going to be an 'Exchange,' the store's name was born.

Buffalo Exchange is a sustainable company that works to protect the
environment by reusing and recycling clothing.  The EPA estimates
12.4 million tons of textiles were generated in 2008, or 5 percent of
total U.S. municipal solid waste.  Nearly half of the 2.5 billion pounds
of postconsumer textile waste prevented from entering the solid waste
stream is recycled as secondhand clothing, according to the Council
for Textile Recycling
.

fashion friday :: mended mosaic

Mended Mosaic
founded in 2008 by Chicago natives KC and Louie Mendicino.
For years, KC sat behind the hum of a sewing machine, with the
assistance of her greatest mentor - her mother.
Beginning creations were small vests for festivals, corsets, then
bellydancing costuming, pants, and more. When KC and Louie
met, he put his handiwork to the needle as well. After an
overwhelming response to their handmade wares, they launched
their creativity into the bigger picture.

Minä Perhonen
Head designer Minagawa and his team are always searching for
new boundaries to what is technically possible.  This results in
beautiful details that are hidden as little treasures in his garments
and fabrics.  Design sustainability and craftsmanship are becoming
increasingly important in the world of fashion.
Minä Perhonen represents these values in its design philosophy and
was founded in 2003 by head designer Akira Minagawa.  The design
label is perceived as one of the most prestigious of Japan.  It is
internationally known for its timeless design and associated with

fashion friday :: vivalamoda magazine

VivaLaModa Magazine
"a bi-monthly magazine created to show the greatest
and coolest fashionable and hand made things that we can find.
But we don’t want to talk only about fashion
or beautiful stuff we find.
This magazine will also host articles about green products,
toys, decoration, product reviews and many more things.
We want to support indie designers and crafters who make things
with their own hands (not to forget we also love vintage!),
and give readers information about the handmade world.

This magazine is made with love, patience and a good eye
for great products..
and for that I have to thank all the fantastic collaborators.
You can find them on the last pages of the magazine
and in the collaborators section.
The rest of work: putting everything together, editing all the magazine,
designing the look and some articles, is up to me, Ainhoa, the editor!"
