sustainable sunday :: farmer jane

FarmerJane.0rg
Temra Costa

"As farmers, moms, businesswomen, chefs, and activists, women are changing the way we eat and farm.  They are the fastest growing demographic to own and operate sustainable farms, comprise the largest percentage of sustainable agriculture nonprofit employees, own sustainable food businesses, cook the majority of household meals, and control household budgets.  “Farmer Janes” are creating a more healthful, sane, and sustainable food system for present and future generations."

"FarmerJane.org is dedicated to featuring the efforts of women, both sung and unsung heroes, that are making positive changes for our food system."

"Activist turned writer, Temra Costa started obsessing about how she is surrounded by women in the food movement when she started working with CAFF in 2003.  Whether participating in farm to school programs or directing statewide programs, she has been consistently surrounded by strong women with seasonal sensibilities.  She's fascinated with women’s role in changing how we eat and farm, as well as with women’s willingness to do front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house work to create sustainable food system alternatives."

"Gorilla vs. Bear is a Texas based music blog."

"In 2008, Gorilla vs. Bear was recognized by Rolling Stone as one of the web’s “Best Music Blogs” in the publication’s annual Best of Rock issue. GvsB was also voted “Blog of the Year” in URB Magazine’s annual readers poll, beating out such luminaries as Kanye West and the Huffington Post. In 2009, GvsB was named one of the “25 Best Music Websites” by The Independent UK, alongside famous weblogs eMusic, the Hype Machine, Pitchfork, and Kanye West.  In addition, Gorilla vs. Bear hosts an award winning, weekly 2 hour show on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio, and frequently presents live shows in Dallas, Austin, and beyond.  We enjoy documenting our favorite artists via various antiquated photographic media, prompting the Village Voice to proclaim, “Gorilla vs Bear may have the Polaroid mugshot game on Kryptonite lock.”

whimsical wednesday :: winona cookie creations

Winona Cookie Creations
"When I’m not busy being a psychologist, I’m busy making art, something I have done for as long as I can remember.  Since I can’t seem to settle on just one career, it’s not surprising that I can’t settle on just one artistic style either.   I enjoy creating whimsical children’s illustrations in watercolor, but also like working with collage, assemblage and making jewelry.  Let’s face it: my studio’s a MESS!  So while I’m snipping, gluing and painting, I’m channeling Maurice Sendak, Ed Gorey and Alphonse Mucha, and hoping you like the results.  While I can sometimes recreate something I’ve done, I’m not interested in mass production, so my offerings will tend to change often – keep checking back!"
"About Winona Cookie: Winona Cookie was my imaginary friend when I was a kid.  She looked just like my avatar.  Also, I LOVE cookies. And tea. Cookies and tea, both."
